Before you install

Check the essentials.

WordPress and hosting

WordPress 7.0+, WooCommerce 11.0+ and PHP 8.4+. Your database must support transactional InnoDB tables. Plan for recording storage and working scheduled cleanup.

A supported checkout

WooCommerce classic shortcode checkout or Checkout Blocks, using a same-site permalink path. Third-party checkout builders, off-site payment pages and network activation are outside the supported scope.

A consent integration

Cookiebot, the supported CookieYes hosted web app or a developer-connected custom consent banner. Capture stays off until you configure the store and deliberately enable it.

First installation

Start with Free.

  1. Back up your store. In WordPress, open Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin, select the Free ZIP, install it and activate it.
  2. Activation opens Frictions setup in full-focus mode. Review the checkout checks and consent integration. Optional installation sharing and email signup can both be skipped.
  3. If you have Pro, upload and activate the compatible Pro 1.1.2 ZIP. Its licence page opens next: copy your key from your purchase account and choose Connect licence.
  4. Complete checkout and shopper-consent setup, choose retention and storage, then verify a real recording. Back to WordPress remains available throughout setup.

Updating an existing store

Replace files. Keep your data.

  1. Back up the database and plugin files. Download Free 1.1.3 and, if installed, Pro 1.1.2.
  2. Upload Free first, then Pro. Use WordPress’s option to replace the installed version. Free 1.1.3 works with Pro 1.1.2; an existing Pro 1.1.2 installation does not need replacing for this Free update.
  3. Check Frictions settings, diagnostics, retained recordings and consent behavior after the update.

Updating from 0.4.2? That release could pause recording during an upgrade. Versions 0.4.3 and later preserve the current recording and setup choices. Check Recording status after updating; resume only if you intend to record and consent is configured. An update does not turn paused recording on.

Do not uninstall to update. Uninstalling Free removes local recordings, settings and registered Pro data.

Need help finding your Pro download?

Use the purchase account associated with your order. If access is missing, open a support request with your order reference and the account email. Never include passwords, payment details or shopper recordings.

After successful first activation, local tools keep working on that site while offline or after updates and support end. Read the activation and moving-site guide for disconnecting or changing sites.
